This year over twenty Cintra employees stepped out to do the 5km run along Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. Celebrating The Sunshine Funds tenth anniversary of the run, Team Cintra managed to raise over £1,000 for this much needed cause.
The Sunshine Fund was established in 1923 by King George V on his visit to Tyneside to commemorate the opening of The Tyne Bridge, during which he paid for some of the underprivileged children of the region to have a day at the seaside.
This amazing charity has followers from all walks of life including Ant & Dec, Tim Healy, Steve Cram and of course, ourselves at Cintra HR & Payroll Services. We hold their amazing efforts and work very close to our hearts. The Sunshine Fund was adopted by the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, and has raised many thousands of pounds for sick and underprivileged children in the North East.
A fresh summer’s evening made for the perfect running conditions as various members of team Cintra, both amateur and professional flowed around the riverside route. Alastair Green retained his well-deserved title with an impressive 22 minutes. Our very own “expert” marathon runner Andrew was hot on his heels with an incredible time of 22 minutes and 33 seconds.
Gemma and Leanne Doubler came through for the girls of the team with an impressive time of 29:37 and 31:58 respectively, a massive improvement on their 40 minute time last year! The pre-race fuel must have paid off!
Nham Lee our Sales Manager after her celebratory KFC Bucket, commented, “Having hung up my running shoes for over 20 years, I must admit I panicked slightly before the race. Having done no preparations and seeing my colleagues drinking their healthy shakes, eating their pre-run fuel packed lunches and the odd stretches as they walked around the office I thought I didn’t stand a chance! I needn’t have worried, the actual event was brilliant I enjoyed the whole experience, from warm up exercises, running – well more walking and the exhilaration of crossing the finish line after 40 minutes. The weather was perfect and everyone running were in great spirits. I would highly recommend the run to everyone.”
Cintra with its long standing tradition of last place gratefully took second last place with Valerie finishing with a remarkable time of 51 minutes and 12 seconds! Well done team!
Credit should go to everyone who took part, particularly the families and children of some of our staff who joined us in raising money for this extremely worthy cause.
